Urban concept of the open utilisation structure: The concept presents an innovative and open spatial structure that defines different zones and consists of high points and open spaces. At the centre of this structure is a plaza, in the middle of which a public pool, a dance floor or an ice skating rink is planned, depending on the season. The open spaces between the structures create a pleasant atmosphere and invite people to linger.
The hustle and bustle of the station area can be observed from the high points of the spatial structure. The open design of the spatial structure allows the Rosenstein district to be connected to the railway station. The structure is designed to be permeable to light and air, so that you are always outside.
Vertical access is provided by our interpretation of the ‘Stäffele’, which connect different storeys, allow different perspectives and serve as seating steps. These are supplemented by lifts for barrier-free access.
Grating floors are integrated into the structure as platforms, which are translucent and weather-resistant to create a light and airy ambience. Within the structure there are booths and houses in The structure contains stalls and houses in various module sizes from 25 to 75 square meters, which can be rented flexibly for different uses and can be changed depending on the season and requirements. On the first floor, the module sizes can be extended to up to 200 square meters. This is made possible by a façade design that allows various areas of the stalls to be opened up - so the façade can be thermally closed, partially opened or completely pushed aside.
Possible temporary and permanent uses include Spaces for vacation programs, universities or clubs/spaces for music performances, brass bands, DJ performances or bands/space for gastronomy such as ice cream parlors, bars, Christmas market stalls/space for pop-up stores and young companies, workspaces for artists, creatives and also interim uses.
The translucent structure is to be greened as far as possible. The greenery creates different moods over the course of the seasons and the weather and seasons are always perceptible. The structure is complemented by quiet seating areas surrounded by greenery.
With this concept, we are creating a unique and versatile architectural environment that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing and can be flexibly adapted to the changing needs of Stuttgart's residents.
