General information
-
Stuttgart Rosenstein is a very large and long-term urban development project. Today, the majority of the area is still covered with tracks that trains use to enter Stuttgart's terminus station. The plan is for the new station to go into operation in 2026. The current track field can then be dismantled. The area that will be freed up as a result will also be heavily landscaped. It will be connected to the existing park. These construction measures will take several years. In some cases, construction of the new district can already begin at the same time. The starting points are the areas near the main railway station and the northern railway station. This is how the new Stuttgart Rosenstein district will emerge over the next few years.

The state capital of Stuttgart has submitted numerous projects to the IBA'27, including the urban development around the current Wagenhallen - the so-called “Quartier C1 Wagenhallen”. Based on the winning design from the Rosenstein urban planning competition, the so-called “Maker City” is to be created here by the exhibition year 2027. A productive creative quarter that combines ecological and social living, work and urban production, education and culture as well as urban agriculture. Further information can be found here.

The urban development project is a project of the state capital Stuttgart, which is why the term Stuttgart is inextricably linked with the name Rosenstein. The name Rosenstein is used because the area is located in the immediate vicinity of Rosenstein Park and Rosenstein Castle. The hill on which Rosenstein Castle stands was originally called Kahlenstein. In 1824, King Wilhelm decided that the castle should be renamed and given the name Rosenstein in reference to the favorite flower of his wife Queen Katharina, who died in 1819. This name was subsequently also transferred to the adjoining park.

Housing and working
-
The state capital Stuttgart is the owner of all areas in Stuttgart Rosenstein. The areas are therefore not subject to real estate speculation. The new district of Stuttgart Rosenstein will provide affordable housing for citizens from all social classes. Special models will be used to facilitate construction and ownership. These include building communities and cooperatives. In addition, land will be allocated in accordance with the Stuttgart Inner Development Model (SIM), which stipulates that the proportion of subsidized housing construction on urban land must be at least 50 percent.

On the contrary. At the heart of the Stuttgart Rosenstein urban development project is the urban development of the district, which explicitly includes the expansion of the parks. The parks are to be extended by a total of around 20 hectares. As a result, the project will enable important inner urban and landscape development.
