The new station concourse - for everyone
The aim is to transform the structure of the current site of Stuttgart's terminus station into a new, multifunctional space with urban gardening, a food market, an art area with a hot-air balloon that can be climbed, a restaurant and café, and co-working.

Our plan is to retain the steel and concrete structure of the current terminus station and transform it into halls with different areas. The exterior is to be attractively clad in wood. The areas we have designed are accessible from all sides and interconnected: an urban gardening/farming area, a food market, an art area (with a hot air balloon that can be climbed), a restaurant and café, as well as a co-working space. The intended mixed use creates a sustainable, inclusive and culturally orientated place that visitors can use both in summer and winter (free of charge).
Urban Gardening / Farming
In this hall, the former railway track bed is to be converted into cultivable beds with soil so that plants (flowers, vegetables, etc.) can be grown. Urban gardening and farming also fulfils an educational purpose, as it is not only about local/regional cultivation, but also about knowledge about food, which is to be imparted in the form of training courses, among other things.
Food Market
The food market fulfils an important social purpose. Inspired by the various food markets in London, people will be able to stroll and feast here all year round. The food stalls will offer fruit and vegetables grown during urban gardening and farming, among other things. The large interior with long tables will offer plenty of space for families, groups and individuals. The food market will be connected to a covered terrace and a water play area (outside, for children).
Restaurant and café
The integrated restaurant offers further culinary experiences. As Stuttgart's city centre already offers numerous opportunities to eat cheese spaetzle or Maultauschen, this area is intended to offer local agricultural products in a more alternative way (e.g. vegan). This area should invite people to have lunch and dinner with family and friends, but also offer space for birthdays, for example.
Art gallery with climbable hot air balloon
This new exhibition space adds another art space to Stuttgart's ‘culture mile’. The fact that the art gallery is located on old, converted railway tracks gives it an alternative charm that also sets it apart from the established exhibition venues in Stuttgart. The hot air balloon, which can be climbed into, offers a special leisure experience and allows visitors to explore the city centre from above.
Co-working space
The co-working space also enriches Stuttgart's range of publicly accessible locations with an area that promotes the pioneering spirit typical of the region. Here, people can come together for creative work and interaction (e.g. for do-it-yourself courses, hobby workshops, hackathons, etc.).
