The project briefly explained
-
The
opportunityOnce the future main station is fully operational, the dismantling of the current tracks will free up 85 hectares of space. The city of Stuttgart is developing a new district here: Stuttgart Rosenstein – housing for around 10,000 people.
-
The planning
The Stuttgart Rosenstein framework plan sets out the guidelines for urban development. It was developed by the Office for Urban Planning and Housing in collaboration with asp Architekten and Koeber Landschaftsarchitektur and approved in autumn 2023.
-
The park extension
An arched park, the Gleisbogenpark, connects the new neighbourhoods with each other and with the surrounding districts. The sponge city concept with minimal surface sealing ensures the best possible urban climate throughout the entire neighbourhood.
-
The potential
In Stuttgart Rosenstein, 4,700 to 5,700 apartments could be built right in the city centre. The area also offers space for a total of 20 hectares of park expansion, connecting the Schlossgarten with the city districts.
-
Urban
developmentThree mixed-use districts are planned: Europaquartier, Rosensteinquartier and Maker City. Up to 5,700 apartments could be built there, at least half of which would be subsidised housing.
-
The productive city
Stuttgart Rosenstein is not just an opportunity for urban planning. It is also a testing ground for mixed forms of living, productive urban districts combined with art and culture, green living spaces and new mobility and logistics concepts.
